Alberta Wraps Up Spring Session

The Alberta government has concluded its spring legislative session after passing 17 bills focused on protecting residents, strengthening the economy and supporting long-term growth across the province. The session included measures related to health care, public safety, education, trade and business development.

Among the key initiatives introduced were stronger protections for children and families, including new classroom neutrality expectations and public library standards aimed at restricting children’s access to explicit visual materials without parental consent. The government also passed legislation to strengthen safeguards around medical assistance in dying, improve access to addiction treatment medications and continue restructuring Alberta’s health-care system.

Economic growth remained a major priority during the session. The province approved legislation designed to speed up major project approvals, expand interprovincial trade opportunities and reduce barriers for businesses and investors. Alberta also passed the Alberta Whisky Act to create official standards for Alberta-made whisky products.

Government House Leader Joseph Schow said the legislation will help strengthen Alberta’s economy and improve the quality of life for residents. The session also included justice-related measures and motions recognizing veterans and calling for greater collaboration in appointing superior court judges.
