Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith are set to sign an implementation agreement in Calgary today aimed at advancing the Alberta-Canada energy partnership. The agreement is being viewed as a significant step toward strengthening cooperation between the federal and provincial governments on energy development and related projects.
Ahead of the signing ceremony, federal and Alberta government officials will hold an embargoed media briefing Friday morning to provide background information on the agreement. Officials from the departments of Energy and Minerals, Intergovernmental and International Relations, and Environment and Protected Areas are expected to participate in the teleconference briefing, which is limited to accredited members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery.
The agreement signing and photo opportunity will take place at McDougall Centre at approximately 11:35 a.m. MT, where Premier Smith will welcome Prime Minister Carney before both leaders deliver brief remarks. Following the event, Premier Smith is scheduled to host a media availability and answer questions from reporters during a news conference planned for 12:45 p.m. MT.
